Miners compete to solve complex mathematical problems that involve hashing, and the first to solve the problem gets to add a new block to the blockchain, earning a reward. The “SHA-256” hashing algorithm is commonly used in Bitcoin, ensuring that each block is securely linked to the previous one.
Hashing is also instrumental in creating wallet addresses and verifying transactions. When a transaction is made, its details are hashed, producing a unique identifier that helps secure and trace it across the blockchain without revealing sensitive information.
